I resonate so much when you mentioned the difficulties to achieve the right balance. I always struggle between my personal taste and commercial taste as I've been asked to brighten up my work and use less brown, muddy colours quite often.
And I love your amazing colour choices of L’Elefante a mezzanotte, they remind me of the 60s!
I love the way you write, I felt like we're drinking cofee in a bar and you're telling me this story. Somehow, your writing reminds me of how much I love life. And love the visual storytelling that accompanies it.
This one just came through for me and as I was reading I was like “oh wait!! I know this girl!! We’ve met at the illustration ladies Christmas party!!” Anyway, super interesting on how you probably bring the nostalgic elements of your childhood and sense of aesthetics in your work today ♥️
Loved this. And absolutely love your use of colour. I avoided green for quite a long time, and then in earlier days, my most used pencils were green. In earlier days I loathed pink (mostly because of society's gemdering of the colour) but more recently it's one of my top colours.
Thank you so much Amber! I wish they wouldn't push us to use colours that we are not comfortable with. Your colours are beautiful and I don't believe kids can appreciate only bright colours!
Such a great post about colour, Lisa!

You have the most unique perspective. Thank you for writing. It helped me feel inspired with your talk about pictures and color.
